Visitamos Fundación AMÁS
Last week we had the pleasure of visiting one of the sites of the Fundación AMAS, located at Mostoles, Madrid.
The origins of this Foundation go back to 1977. Since then, they have been working so that people with intellectual disabilities can develop their life project and achieve their integration into society. Fundación AMAS is made of Fundación AMÁS Social, Fundación AMÁS Empleo, Asociación AFANDEM, Asociación ADFYPSE and Asociación ASPANDI. They currently employ 800 professionals, and all sites and services combine offer support and opportunities to around 1800 people with disabilities in the Community of Madrid.
During our visit, Patricia Fernández, coordinator of the STEIA program, explained all the details of this service offered by the Foundation to children aged 6-18 with disabilities or ASD. At STEIA, a team of 16 professionals take care of 115 minors with disabilities and their families, providing support in different areas: personal development, physical wellbeing, interpersonal relationships, emotional wellbeing and support at the environment.
Along with Patricia and Ismael Carrillo, General Director of "Atención a personas", we visited several rooms and met some of the members of the program. We truly appreciate both for their time and dedication, and for allowing us to experience a small part of the great work at Fundación AMAS.
